Kyrkjebygdheia is located 750 meters above sea level east of Nisser lake in Nissdal municipality, West Telemark. The area is known for being very snow-proof, and offers great nature experiences both summer and winter.
The area around the cottage has a large trail network for cross-country skiing and great hiking trails in summer. Breilivatn and Holmvatn are great for both SUP and kayak / canoe, and the tourist association has marked trails including the barbecue cabin Trongebu. The hornet 883 meters above sea level is a popular hiking destination on foot or ski, approx. 4 kilometers from the cottage. This is the highest peak on the east side of Nisser lake and is a great walk for kids and adults.
Kyrkjebygdheia and Nissedal are a great starting point for many activities. Below is information about some of the possibilities.
At Kyrkjebygdheia there is a large crosscountry ski network, about 60 km of trails with double tracks or single tracks with skate slope.
3 kilometers from the cabin you can visit the newly established Kyrkjebygdheia ski slope. The ski slope are equipped with a T-lift and 980 meter slope.
Gautefall Ski Center is half an hour's drive away. There is a large network of 15 slopes, 2 chair lifts, 3 ski lifts and 2 roller conveyors for children. In addition, there are both café, ski shop, play corner and much more. Gautefall Ski Center is 450 meters above sea level.
Vrådal ski slope is half an hour away from the cottage, and offers 18 slopes and 8 lifts. Vrådal is located 250 meters above sea level and the longest slope is 4 kilometers.
The mountain lakes in the area have a lot of trout, and fishing licenses for rod fishing can be purchased online at Nordbygda and Kyrkjebygda fisheries (see link). A weekly card costs 50 NOK and can bring much joy.
Note: Due to spawning, the fish are fed from September 15th every year.
Nisser lake is a few minutes away by car and has many beautiful beaches.
M/F Fjone operates Nisser from Fjonesundet to Sundsodden, a stretch of 400 meters. The ferry is Norway's last cabel car ferry, and transports more than 5,000 passenger cars annually. The trip is a lovely experience and topped with a visit to Fjonesundet Fergekafè which offers a lot of good this is a nice excursion.
MS Fram is a vintage boat from 1909 that sails two-hour sightseeing tours from Straand pier in Vrådal. The boat runs 2-4 times a week from May to October at Nisser, and passes, among other things, Straum lock which is the northern europe's highest situated lock.
